DENTON, U.S.A.

 
    In the movie, this song was sung on one stage, using characters and large letters of the alphabet.  However, in the original script, this song was a "film clip" anthem, that was filmed throughout the town of Denton.  It featured various settings, such as people mowing their lawns, cheerleaders on a football field, and women shopping at stores.  This proved to be too expensive to film (budget restraints due to the actor's strike) so the idea was changed to the "soundstage" we see in the movie.
    As a matter of fact, in the original script, Brad and Janet were not "audience members" as shown in the final film.  Janet was working in the "booth" where she helped the control panels for the cameras at the TV studio that aired the Denton USA anthem.  Brad, meanwhile, was watching the show at home.
    Shock Treatment was filmed in London, so the audience members were all London extras.  Several of them mess up when trying to lip-sync the chorus.
