When Brad stepped off the elevator, he was greeted
by Janet, who looked worried.
"Oh Brad, I can't find them."
She was, of course, referring to Frank, Rocky, and
Columbia.
"It's alright, Janet. I'm sure they found
safety. Let's go to the control room."
"Janet," Dr. Scott greeted her, "It's so nice to
see you again."
Janet smiled, "So you're sure you know how to work
this thing?"
Dr. Scott answered in his German accent, "Yes, piece
of cake."
Brad got in one tube, and Janet started to join
him in the same glass tube.
"No," Dr. Scott said to her, "Get in the other tube."
"But aren't you coming with us?" Janet asked.
"Someone has to stay here and press the buttons,"
Dr. Scott answered. He didn't seem worried at all.
"But Dr. Scott!" Brad exclaimed.
Dr. Scott raised his hand to silence him, "Now,
listen to me, Brad Majors, and listen to me good. I knew going into
this plan that it was a suicide mission. There's no possible way
we can all three go -- and you know it."
There was a moment of silence. Brad stepped
out of the glass tube, and knelt down at Dr. Scott's side. Quietly,
he asked, "Are you sure this is what you want to do?"
He nodded.
Brad felt sad, but knew there was no other way.
One of the three would have to make a sacrifice, and it would most likely
be him. Brad shook Dr. Scott's hand. They looked at each other
for a few seconds, before Brad said, "You're a great man. I'll never
forget you."
Brad stepped back and then entered the tube again.
Janet ran out of her tube and hugged Dr. Scott tightly.
When she pulled away, he noticed his shoulder was wet from her tears.
"I wish there were some other way," she said.
"I'm afraid there isn't," Dr. Scott responded.
Janet wiped her tears, and after kissing him softly
on his cheek, she returned to the glass tube.
"Are you ready?" Dr. Scott asked them. They
nodded.
Dr. Scott had set the destination already: Denton.
He pressed the button and suddenly the room filled
with a vibrant light. Dr. Scott shielded his eyes, and then as quick
as it came, the light disappeared.
Dr. Scott opened his eyes and stared at the tubes.
They were empty inside.
The speaker voice in the castle boomed: "Explosion
in 1 minute and counting."
Dr. Scott looked down at the destination marker,
which read "Denton" followed by the words "Transit successful."
He smiled.
Suddenly a voice filled the room: "That was very
impressive, Dr. Scott."
Dr. Scott turned his head quickly to the doorway
where he saw a very bald Riff Raff and a stunning Magenta.
Riff Raff held in his hand his three pronged laser
gun.
