When Dr. Scott had pressed the transport button for
Brad and Janet, Brad felt a quick heat, and the glass tube filled with
bright light. When the heat and light subsided, he stood there, with
his eyes closed. He could suddenly feel a light breeze, and somewhere
in the distance, he could hear a bird chirp.
"Brad..." Janet's voice said, standing beside him.
Brad opened his eyes, and saw that he and Janet
were standing on the roadside, just outside Denton. The woods were
directly behind them.
"We're back," Brad said with a smile.
"Yes. We are."
They stood there for a second without speaking.
They just breathed in the air and enjoyed the place called "home."
There was no traffic on the road leading into Denton
this particular morning. The sun had just rose, and wildlife started
to chatter in the wooded area behind them.
"I never noticed how beautiful earth is," Janet
said, looking ahead of her towards the city.
"Yep," Brad added, turning to her, "I wonder how
things will be from now on."
Janet said softly, somewhat sadly, "I don't know."
"Perhaps we can have that honeymoon we were about
to have," Brad suggested.
"Yeah, that sounds great." But her words were
soft, her mind some place else. Brad wondered what she was thinking
about. Was it Dr. Scott? Was it Frank? Rocky? The
future?
Suddenly, a car drove up, heading into Denton.
It stopped in front of Brad and Janet.
Brad saw the driver's side window roll down (the
reflection of the rising sun prevented Brad from seeing who was the driver)
and the driver became recognizable. It was Betty Hapschatt.
"Brad? Janet?" Betty said, "Shouldn't you
be on your honeymoon?"
Brad and Janet didn't know how to answer.
They remembered how nobody believed them last year. Finally, Brad
said, "Yeah, we're still on it."
Betty said, "I'd offer you a ride, but under the
circumstances..."
At first Brad and Janet didn't understand what Betty
meant by the words "under the circumstances," -- until they saw what Betty
was looking at: Brad and Janet were still dressed in their Transylvanian
costumes of corset, fishnets and pumps.
Talk about your deja vu, Brad thought.
"Listen," Betty offered, "I won't ask any questions.
You two can do whatever you want on your honeymoon, kinky or not.
But I don't think it's a good idea to stand on the roadside, dressed that
way. I'll tell ya what, why don't you hop in the car. I'll
drive to your apartment, Brad, and get some clothes to change into.
Then I'll take you some place secluded so you can change."
Janet walked up to Betty's window and said honestly,
"Thank you, Betty. You're a dear friend."
Brad and Janet got into the car and the three of
them drove into Denton. They would make every precaution not to be
seen in their current state of dress, thus avoiding being laughing stocks,
as they were the year before.
Janet sat in the back seat and stared out the window.
She and Brad remained quiet for the rest of the trip. Just as before,
she knew that she must not talk about it. She must put the past behind
her. Yet, at the same time, she knew that the past always catches
up to you. So Janet vowed that she would be strong. Already
she felt like a stronger person than she was a year before.
Looking over at Brad, she sensed his silence as
well...and the reasons behind it. Brad had changed. She could
tell. He was no longer the hero he was a year before. He was
exhausted, his strength worn out. Yes, she thought, I'll have to
be the strong one now. It's the only way to keep our sanity.
She turned her stare back out the window.
The morning sun was really bright now.
The camera angle focuses on the sunlight reflected
on Janet's window. The bright glare changes into the glare of ....
a small desk lamp inside the Criminologist's office. The scene has
changed.
The camera pulls back to reveal a very dark office,
the only light coming from a small desk lamp. The maid's face can
be seen faintly from the desk lamp. She looks at us with a smile.
"So there you have it," she concludes, "That's
what happened to Brad and Janet after their first encounter with the infamous
Frank N. Furter. Or at least, so I've been told. Yes, a few
people close to Brad and Janet have been informed of this new adventure,
but there is no proof to back it up. I guess we'll never know."
She stands up and reaches out for the lamp's
on/off switch.
"I guess you wonder what Brad and Janet's lives
were like after that. Well..." (she leans in closer to us, her cheek
next to the desk lamp, her fingers clasped around the on/off switch) "...that's
another story."
She turns off the light and the room turns pitch
black. A second later, we hear the office door open and then shut.
Silence fills the air. A beautiful instrumental BALLAD of "Time Warp"
begins to play...
...and the end credits roll.
