PREVIOUSLY:
To ease their minds and guilt created from that
one eventful evening with Dr. Frank N Furter, Brad and Janet decided to
make love...for one time only. That is, they agreed that afterwards,
they would wait for their wedding night to do it again.
Speaking of honeymoons, let's check in on Ralph
Hapschatt, who had recently returned from his own honeymoon with Betty.
Ralph pays Brad a visit at Brad's small but comfy apartment...
Ralph sat on Brad's sofa, talking to Brad who sat
in the nearby chair. Ralph told him about the couple weeks spent
on their honeymoon. Over two months had passed since Ralph and Betty
had married, yet this was the first chance that Ralph and Brad had had
to see each other since.
"Ralph," Brad said, "It couldn't be that bad."
Ralph laughed nervously, "It was! I mean the
sex was okay, but her jealousy drove me up the wall!"
"I didn't think Betty was the jealous type."
"To tell you the truth, Brad, she's always accused
me of flirting with other women! Even before we were married!"
Brad thought about this, "I'm surprised she married
you."
"Me, too," Ralph said, "But I guess she loves me
enough. But still... You know who she's most jealous of?"
Brad thought about this question, and then answered,
"Janet?"
Ralph laughed, "No! Not Janet. Macy
Struthers."
"The new girl at the television station?" Brad asked.
"Yeah, as if I would ever be attracted to a girl
like her! What a bimbo!"
Ralph laughed nervously, and then said, "Speaking
of my work, guess who might be getting that promotion a little earlier
than expected?"
Brad congratulated him with a firm pat on the back,
"You? Congratulations!"
"Yeah, I guess you can call it a late wedding gift
from my boss, Mr. Smith."
"Mr. Smith? I thought he was going to retire?"
"Yeah," Ralph answered, "He plans on retiring just
as soon as they can find someone to replace him. Regardless, I can
thank Mr. Smith for my new promotion at the television studio. No
longer will I be referred to as Ralph Hapschatt, sometimes cameraman, sometimes
writer. For now it, it's Ralph Hapschatt, Anchorman!"
They both laughed hard.
Ralph added, "I figure the promotion will mean more
money, which should make Betty happy."
Brad threw in some advice, "Yeah, well just remember
to come home on time so she doesn't worry, and you'll be fine."
Ralph responded, "Good idea. And I'll stay
away from that Macy Struthers woman. Hey, how's Janet?"
Brad was suddenly speechless. He wondered
how much Ralph knew since coming back home from his honeymoon. Had
he heard how people ridiculed him and Janet because of that night?
And when it came down to it, did Ralph know what happened on that night?
Brad wanted to answer Ralph, but didn't now the right words to say.
Ralph saw Brad's uneasiness, so he confirmed to
Brad that he knew about the event. "Brad," Ralph said, "I've heard
the town's gossip. Hell, it was in the newspaper, front page, waiting
for me and Betty when we got back. Is it true?"
"It's something Janet and I both want to forget."
Ralph decided to change the subject, seeing Brad's
discomfort, "Betty said Janet went to the doctor this morning. Why
did she go? Is she sick?"
Brad looked at Brad with a look of surprise, saying,
"Doctor? I didn't know Janet went to the doctor?"
"Really?"
"Really," Brad responded, "Why wouldn't she tell
me?"
Suddenly Brad was worried. He stood up and
turned toward the window, where he could see the city traffic outside.
His mind was drifting to thoughts of Janet visiting a doctor. Although
Ralph was talking to Brad in the background, he couldn't hear him.
His mind was on Janet.
"Janet," Brad mumbled quietly, "What's going on?"
Then suddenly it hit him. "Oh my god," he
said to himself, "Are you pregnant?"
The door opened up again and Dr. Jones entered the
examination room. With the doctor was a female nurse, Nurse Brown,
and another nurse, Nurse Wilson. Dr. Jones was holding the results of the
test he had taken earlier.
Janet sat straight up, and asked them impatiently,
"What's wrong? Why have I been feeling sick lately?"
The doctor answered, "You really have no idea, do
you?"
One of the nurses said, "I'm surprised."
"Me, too," said the other nurse.
Janet felt her heart racing, and she could take
the suspense no more.
SONG: "Baby"
Janet left the doctor's office and headed to the
parking garage where her father's car was parked. She had borrowed
it for this appointment, yet now that it's over, she regrets that she ever
made the appointment.
"Oh no," she said, as she sat behind the wheel of
the car, ready to start it, "Who's the father? I was with Frank,
Rocky, and Brad all within a 24 hour period!"
Even though the car key was in the ignition, she
found herself unable to start the car. All she could do was sit and
cry.
